The key task for me is to produce the translation that conveys the same message as the original. For this purpose, different instruments are put to use depending on the nature of the text and the target reader. I must be able to justify and explain my choice of instruments, that is, I must know everything about each word.

It happens that neither the text itself nor any dictionaries provide any clues to the questions arising during the translation when the author of the text uses a word with incorrect meaning, makes inaccuracies writing in a foreign language or fails to take account of the fact that the professional jargon is not known outside his/her business. In this case, I count on my imagination and information search skills by trying to guess an expression in the author’s mother tongue, referring to the dictionaries of foreign languages, analysing entries in the margins and the layout of the text, checking the usage of an expression on the website of a business company, and employing other techniques. This is a working principle that involves moving the focus of attention from the detail to the whole and vice versa until no doubt is left.

I strictly adhere to the principle that the translation should read as if it had been written by a professional in the particular field. How can this be achieved? The internet is an indispensable tool and specialised websites help to identify the patterns, frequency and accuracy of term usage.

To compensate for the lack of professional knowledge in any field, I actively search for specific information and continuously develop information assessment skills to fluently and accurately convey any information in the target language of translation. Therefore, I am keen on self-education and keep up with evolving technologies and the pace of modern life. Novel, different subjects for translation offer great advantages and opportunities in terms of achieving this goal.
